Fire Eastern Screech Owl (Red Morph)

Why the name?
Because of her reddish plumage.

Rehab history
Came into rehab in the fall of 2003, and became an education bird in the spring of 2004.

Story

This female Eastern Screech Owl was hit by a car in November of 2003. She was determined to be non-releasable because of severe loss of vision in both eyes.

Fire is an outstanding education bird who has become very comfortable around people, and is non-threatening to children because she is small and “cute.” Fire and Smoke often participate in programs together so people can see the two color morphs of the Eastern Screech Owl at one time. Fire is very vocal most of the year, and around sunset often carries on long “conversations” with Smoke, who is in a nearby flight cage.
